An Italian Wedding

Last month Cathie and I along with our son, James, traveled to Italy to attend our daughter's wedding. On July 19th, in the picturesque town of Certaldo in Tuscany, Sara was married to Anth McKay. Anth is from Newcastle in England and is also a teacher in Brunei. They initially met when they were both teaching in Abu Dhabi a few years ago.

While we were in Italy we stayed in a villa, the Castellare de' Sernigi, which initially was built as a monastery in the 14th century. It is located in a vineyard and olive orchard not far from the town of Tavarnelle Val de Pesa. We and Anth's family had the place to ourselves for a week. And what a wonderful week it was. We had not met the McKays before, so this was an excellent place to get to know each other. There with Anth's mom and dad, Brenda and Tom, was his sister, Julia, her partner, Glen, and their son, Ryan, just a few months old. Although the villa was incredibly old, it had been recently refurbished to have modern living conveniences and was large enough to house us all with space to spare. Our stay was very comfortable indeed and our host, Anso, took care of our every need.

And the wedding! It was a beautiful, poignant ceremony in the courtyard of Certaldo's old city hall, a building dating back to medieval times. The weather was perfect and the location spectacular. Sara and Anth looked like movie stars. The wedding was officiated by a represenative of the city and the mayor of Certaldo. What a great start for Sara and Anth on their lives together!
